Our holistic programming approach is to combat sex trafficking through Empowering girls at risk and victims of sex Trafficking by Prevention of trafficking, Provision of care and Preparedness for resilience while creating a trafficking free environment through Tech-innovation, System Strengthening and Advocacy.

Problem Statement

By 2022, approximately 15,000 girls are at risk of sex trafficking, With only 500 reported cases in Uganda. These girls face significant barriers, including sex exploitation, lack of access to care, and limited opportunities for recovery and empowerment. These challenges are perpetuated by cycles of poverty about 10.1million people in Uganda live in poverty, 22% girls between the age of 13-24 face sexual abuse, and other vulnerabilities. To break this cycle, it is essential to address Prevention, provision of comprehensive care, and prepare these girls for resilience and reintegration into a trafficking-free environment.

Goals

To empower girls at risk and victims of sex trafficking through an integrated approach that prevents trafficking, provides holistic care, and fosters resilience, while creating systemic change through tech innovation, system strengthening, and advocacy

Impact

Our program is transforming the lives of vulnerable girls and young women by empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to assert their sexual and reproductive health rights, prevent exploitation, and build a brighter future. Through comprehensive education, safe spaces for dialogue and community engagement, the program fosters leadership and self-confidence by reducing vulnerability to human trafficking, early marriages, and gender-based violence. Through equipping participants with economic and vocational skills, the program also paves the way for greater independence and opportunities, ensuring that young women become agents of change within their communities. The lasting impact is seen in stronger more informed communities, where girls and young women are safe, empowered and capable of creating their own destinies.

Prevention

In the context, prevention is a critical strategy to combat sex trafficking and exploitation. Our prevention efforts focus on reducing the vulnerability of at-risk girls by creating protective environments, and addressing the root causes of trafficking. Below are key components of Daughters of Freedom's prevention strategy

Provision and Care

At Daughters of Freedom Uganda, provision and care are at the heart of our mission to uplift and empower young girls and women who have experienced or are at risk of exploitation and trafficking. We understand that recovery, empowerment, and reintegration require a holistic approach that meets both immediate needs and long-term aspirations.

Preparedness for Resilience

This focus on resilience helps to ensure that survivors not only recover from exploitation, but are equipped with the skills, support and mental strength to rebuild their lives and remain empowered in the face of future challenges. Preparedness for resilience involves comprehensive programs that address personal, social and economic aspects of recovery and self-reliance.

Systemic change Drivers

At Daughters of Freedom Uganda, we recognize that achieving lasting impact for at-risk girls and survivors of trafficking requires addressing systemic root causes. Our approach to systemic change is guided by a set of transformative drivers that empower individuals, challenge societal norms, and build sustainable structures for justice and equity.

System Stregthening

Daughters of Freedom works with local institutions such as law enforcement, social services and healthcare providers to strengthen their ability to identify and respond to sex trafficking cases. Training programs ensure that these institutions are equipped with the knowledge and tools to handle trafficking cases sensitively and effectively.

Advocacy

The organization also provides legal assistance to survivors, ensuring they can access justice and that traffickers are held accountable. This legal advocacy extends to working with the judicial system to ensure cases are heard and prosecuted fairly, contributing to systemic deterrence of sex trafficking.
